We left for Valencia on Saturday around 12:30 and arrived here that evening. So far it's been a great experience. The students here gave us a warm (but interesting) welcome. As soon as we had set foot in the reception area of our dorm, we were astonished to see a large group of Spanish students waiting to greet us in the nearby patio. They made each one of us walk by them and say our name individually while they cheered for us. It was pretty intimidating, mostly because all of the guys were holding signs with numbers on them to rate the hotness of the American Beauties standing before them. An overwhelming welcome to say the least.
The city is lovely. I think I am going to enjoy it a lot here. The food in the cafeteria has proven to be decent, although that has not been my overall opinion of Spanish food thus far. I didn't know these peopled loved ham so much! Every meal has some sort of ham option: fried ham, shaved ham, ham sandwich, ham on a stick...(okay, maybe not the latter, but I've seen some pretty ridiculous ham while I've been here.)
Today we went on a walk about the pretty city. We're in the medieval part of Valencia where almost ever fifth building looks like an ancient castle. There are also orange and lemon trees everywhere!
Here are some pictures:
